Route (Munich - Florence - Amalfi Coast - Rome - Croatia - Vienna)

This tour meets at 9:00am at Munich’s Jaeger’s Hostel. It is recommended you arrive the day before the tour begins. There will be a Bus2alps trip leader in Munich the day prior if you choose to arrive early. Please meet you trip leader 20 minutes prior to the meeting time. After checking everyone in we will depart for Neuschwanstein Castle. Located in the heart of the Bavarian Alps, the beautiful Neuschwanstein Castle was the inspiration for Disneyland’s Sleeping Beauty’s Castle. Included in our time at the castle is a guided tour and a ride down the exciting Alpine slide located nearby. We will then depart the castle for Florence via a scenic ride through the Bavarian, Austrian, and Italian Alps. We will make a stop for dinner on the way before arriving in Florence in the evening. Florence is the home of the Renaissance, and Italy’s most picturesque city (not to mention of our Bus2alps’ homes). For those looking to go out tonight, we will organize special deals at one of our favorite local bars.

You will have all day today free to explore more of Florence’s endless beauty. We will have an orientation tour in the morning Today you will be able to check out Florence’s great museums and galleries, like the Uffizi, Bargello, Accademia (home of the David), Pitti Palace, Boboli Gardens, and more. Refer to your trip leader for recommendations and how to visit.
You can head to Tuscany to visit the medieval city of Siena, San Gimignano (the medieval New York City), go wine tasting in the Chianti region, push over the Leaning Tower of Pisa, or other beautiful cities in the region. On Wednesday evening your trip leader will take you to Piazzale Michelangelo, which offer the best view of the city, and great gelato. We will then return to the city center for a Welcome Dinner at our local family-style restaurant, Il Gatto e La Volpe, where we will be treated to family servings of local Tuscan appetizers, pastas, and Tuscan Wine. After dinner there will be exclusive VIP entrance to one of the many clubs in Florence.

The morning and early afternoon is free to catch any of the Florence sites you have not already visited. We will depart for Rome afterwards, arriving in Rome in the evening. There will be an optional group dinner in Rome and night out.
We will spend today on a walking tour of the Roman Forum, Circus Maximus, and Colosseum. Entrance to the Colosseum will be an optional cost. Other sights in Rome include The Pantheon, Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, Villa Borghese, and Piazza Navona. This evening we will have dinner at our favorite restaurant in Rome, Tony’s Trattoria. Located in Rome’s beautiful Trastevere district, Tony’s will serve us up a family-style dinner with several Roman specialties and wine. Afterwards we will head to the district of Campo de Fiori, Rome’s bustling nightlife location.

Today there will be an optional guided tour of the Vatican Museum, Sistine Chapel and St. Peter’s Basilica. We will depart from our accommodation for the tour at 9:00*. We will depart for The Amalfi Coast at 4pm. The Amalfi Coast is Italy’s premier coastline, and Bus2alps signature destination (the Bus2alps Amalfi Coast tour was awarded #1 trip in Europe for 2012). Travel to The Amalfi Coast is by private luxury coach with A/C, DVD, and bathroom. Approximate arrival time is in the evening*. Upon arrival to The Amalfi Coast, we will immediately check into our accommodation.
Optional: Vatican and St. Peter’s tour
We depart for the port by private bus at 8:00* bus where we board our private boat and set sail for Capri. First stop is the Blue Grotto. You will be transferred directly from our boat to the grotto. Entry to the Blue Grotto is 12.50 euro. This saves you an additional 10 euro. After, we continue around the island and dock at Marina Grande. Your trip leader will walk you up Via Krupp to the Augustus’ Garden where you have great views of the island. We then walk to Capri Town where meet our private transport to Anacapri. Anacapri bustles with options; riding up the chairlift to the top of Mt. Solaro to get a breathtaking 360 degree view of the island, grabbing a unique pair of custom made sandals and enjoying some homemade limoncello and chocolates. Our private boat departs from Marina Grande at 17:30*. Friday night we organize an optional dinner in the Sorrento town center at Il Leone Rosso, an excellent restaurant with an extensive menu of local specialties at great prices. Afterwards we can head down to the English Inn, an outdoor beer garden with drinks specials for Bus2alps members.

In the morning we depart at 10:00* by private bus to Positano. After some photo opportunities, we will walk to the black sand beaches through this remarkable cliff-hanging coastal village. Sun and beach wait for the rest of the day. Bus2alps organizes an optional boat trip that takes you on a costal tour of Positano to cliff jump, cave swim, and capture great photos. Cliff jump into the crystal clear deep Mediterranean or go swimming inside some incredible caves! From Positano you can venture further along the coast to the town of Amalfi. Our private bus will return us to Sorrento in the late afternoon. Saturday night you have free to yourself to either kick back at one of the scenic viewpoints at the accommodation or head into Sorrento. It is possible to organize transport to a club in Positano built into a cave.

In the morning we depart for Pompeii at 8:00*. We arrive at Pompeii and break for an hour for lunch. At Pompeii, Bus2alps will organize a professionally guided 2 hour tour. Bus2alps has been using the same guides for the past 4 years and they paint an excellent picture of Pompeii life during the Roman era and how to relate it to young adults. After the Pompeii tour we will head to the Mt. Vesuvius, to hike the volcano. After the tour we will head to the port town of Bari where we will board our boat the beautiful city of Dubrovnik.

Today we arrive in the magnificent fortified coastal city of Dubrovnik. Dubrovnik is regarded by many as the most beautiful town in the Adriatic Sea. We will have a walking tour of the city today. Afterwards you will have the option to explore the rest of this wonderful city.

We will depart Dubrovnik at 7:00. Today you have all day to explore Split and its surrounding areas. Bus2alps will organize a white-water rafting trip on the Cetina River. Rafting the Cetina is an adventurous and scenic experience on one of Croatia’s great natural landmarks. The rafting trip will depart about an hour after we arrive in Split*. If you choose to not join the white-water rafting adventure, you can spend your day laying out on one of Split’s beaches, join a tour of the Split city center, visit the Diocletian Palace, rent a bike and ride up Marjan Hill, or take a day trip to local surrounding towns, like Omis, or the Krka Waterfalls. You can hop on the local bus to the town of Omiš. Located 25 kilometers from Split, Omiš is where the Cetina River meets the sea.
Tonight there will be an optional pub crawl to the best of Split’s bustling nightlife. Meet in the hostel reception at 20:00* if you are interested in joining the pub crawl. If you choose to not join the pub crawl, the night is free to explore Split’s many restaurants, cafes, and pubs.
Optional: White Water Rafting, Pub Crawl
For those interested, Bus2alps will organize a private island cruise tour that heads to the islands of Solta and Brač. Brač is known for its rolling hills, isolated bays, clear waters, and its views. Once on Brač you will have time to explore the medieval buildings, try out windsurfing in the harbor, marvel at the dazzling views, or check out the beaches. The most famous beach is the Golden Horn. The Golden Horn beach, also known in Croatian as Zlatni Rati, is famous for being triangle shaped with trees in the center. When you stand in the water, all you see is sea, beach, sky, and trees, giving the impression of being on a deserted island.
Tonight there will be an optional trip to the island town of Trogir, situated thirty minutes from Split. Here there are many great dinner options. Your trip leader will provide you with recommendations of where to eat. Afterwards, it is possible to check out one of Split’s many great nightlife options.

In the morning we will depart Split for Krka at 8:30*. It takes approximately 2 hours to get to Krka. There you will have a few hours to swim and explore Mother Nature’s incredible waterfalls of this Croatian National Park. After enjoying the wonders of nature we will depart Krka for Vienna.

In the morning we offer a small tour by tram on the Vienna Ring Road that encircles Old Town Vienna. The Ring Road is home to many of the city’s historical buildings and museums. After our tram ride, we take you past the famous Opera House and St. Stephen’s Cathedral. We stop off at the Hotel Sacher, home of the original recipe of the Sacher Torte, to taste this world famous chocolate cake. From Hotel Sacher, The Hofburg Palace (and its many exhibits, including Crown Jewels and Royal Apartments) and Vienna’s famous museums are in easy walking distance. Friday afternoon you may join your trip leader for a tour and tasting at the Schnapps Museum (6 euro). See how the liquors are made and sample the 20 flavors!
Tonight we will have our farewell dinner at a traditional Austrian restaurant serving up Wiener Schnitzel (and of course vegetarian options). Afterwards we will celebrate an incredible trip in Vienna’s “Bermuda Triangle” district, a live assortment of bars, pubs, and clubs.

Optional Activities and Expenses
- Blue Grotto (Amalfi Coast): Entrance into the site is 12.50 Euro and includes row boat ride into one of the Seven Natural Wonders of Europe. For an added tip your driver may allow you to swim in the fluorescent water.
Positano Boat Cruise (Amalfi Coast): 10 Euro for 2-2.5 hours; we take a private boat down the Amalfi Coast where we stop to cliff jump, swim through caves, and scope some incredible views.
- Pompeii Guided Tour (Amalfi Coast): 20 euro for entry and guide. Bus2alps has been using the same guides for years now. They give a fantastic account of the city and do a good job of relating it.
Mt. Solaro (Amalfi Coast): 5 Euro for Bus2alps guests (3 Euro discount); from Anacapri you can take a chairlift to the top of the island for the best views of the Bay of Naples and Mt. Vesuvius.
- Mt Vesuvius (Amalfi Coast): 7 Euro with student ID; Hike to the top of the historic Mt. Vesuvius. Hiking time to the crater is approximately 20 minutes each way.
Rafting the Cetina River (Split, Croatia): 51 Euro - Experience an adventurous ride down Croatia’s natural beauty, the emerald green Cetina River. Duck through lush overgrown trees expanding over the river and find yourself in large scenic expanses as you rush down the Cetina. When we’re all finished and off the river, a traditional Croatian dinner will be included.
- Private Island Tour (Split, Croatia): 40 Euro - Spend your day cruising around the coastline, visiting the islands of Brač and Solta. Cruise includes a grilled seafood and chicken lunch, and unlimited wine and soft drinks. Ferry to Brač: 3-4 Euro - Take a day trip to one of the beautiful Dalmatian Islands. Brač is known for its Golden Horn Beach, one of the most photographed spots on the Dalmatian Coast. Depending on seasonal availability, the ferry goes to the town or Supetar or Bol. Golden Horn Beach is located a short distance from Bol. Transfer to the Golden Horn Beach via Supetar will cost an addition 4 Euro by bus, but allows you to see the interior of Brač.
Split Pub Crawl (Split, Croatia): 15 euro - Engulf yourself in a mix of Split’s top pubs, bars, and clubs, while getting to know other fellow travelers.
