The bus departs from the Santa Maria Novella Train Station. The meeting point is in the International Ticketing Hall opposite tracks 8 and 9. Please meet your trip leader 20 minutes prior to departure. Travel to Rome is by private luxury coach with A/C, DVD, and bathroom.
Upon arrival to Rome, we will immediately being the best walking tour in town, “Romeing Tours” which will take us on a walking tour throughout the eternal city. The tour makes a large circle of downtown Rome, visiting several sights, including the Colosseum, Pantheon, Jewish Ghetto, Mouth of Truth, Circus Maximus, Piazza Venezia, Roman Forum, and more! The tour is taken at an easy pace. We take a break mid tour where you are able to try some of Rome’s famous pizza, coffee, or gelato. We sum up the history, grandeur, power and influence of the world’s most famous and prolific empire. The tour covers the history of Rome from the conquering and pillaging of the rowdy Ancient Romans to the culture of the modern Italians.
The walking tour will end at the Colosseum and from there you will have the option of going inside and seeing this 2,000 year old amphitheater which was the largest structure built during the Roman empire. Once inside you are able to see first hand what is considered to be one of the greatest works of Roman architecture and Roman engineering, capable of seating 50,000 spectators, the Colosseum was used for gladiatorial contests and public spectacles. You can also go into the most magnificent church in Italy, Saint Peter’s Basilica. After spending a of couple hours visiting Saint Peter’s Square and the Vatican you will have a free afternoon and evening where you can stroll through the oldest streets of Rome in Trastevere, a neighborhood that makes you feel like you are back in Ancient Rome. Or you could choose to visit the Spanish Steps where you can spend hours shopping at places that range from little boutiques to high-end designer stores. Whatever you choose to do, your Bus2alps trip leader will be there to help guide you to the best spots in Rome. At 19:00 we will also be setting up an optional dinner at our favorite restaurant, Tony’s, which is located in the heart of Trastevere and has an extensive menu of local Roman cuisine at great prices.
We will meet back at Roma Termini for departure back to Florence that evening.
