We will arrive in the medieval, hilltop city of Tivoli located in the Lazio region of Italy. Once we arrive, we will have time to explore the area and take in the stunning views of the historic city. We’ll journey over to the magnificent gardens of Villa d’Este. The Renaissance Villa d'Este was built in the 1550’s for Cardinal Ippolito d'Este, the son of Lucretia Borgia. Built over a Benedictine convent, the palace was intended for entertaining with lavishly frescoed reception rooms and a breathtaking garden. Designed to impress the Cardinal's guests, the Villa's gardens boast many extravagant fountains. The centrepiece, the enormous Water Organ Fountain, cascades down into smaller pools.
Upon leaving Villa d’Este, we’ll head into Tivoli’s city center, Centro Vecchio. From here we’ll stop for a casual lunch, and stroll to our favorite vista point that overlooks the rolling hills of Lazio.
We will depart from Tivoli and arrive back to Rome early in the evening.
